Lancelot Eric Richdale's papers document his internationally recognised contributions to ornithological knowledge and conservation.  By studying specific populations of birds in detail for long periods of time, Richdale created in his papers a rich resource of scientific data in a variety of media.  His use of motion picture film is very likely a New Zealand first.
